Clayoquot Sound (pronounced klak-wot) is a biologically diverse wilderness area on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, encompassing 350,000 hectares of land and ocean. An untamed and wondrous place, Clayoquot Sound is a uniquely beautiful site, rich with abundant wildlife, where old growth forests flourish. Visitors submerge themselves in the dazzling surroundings and observe wildlife in its natural habitat, deepening their connection with this special place.

Wahous Wilderness Lodge resides in Ahousaht traditional territory, surrounded by the Pacific Rim National Park, Strathcona Provincial Park, and Hesquiat Peninsula Provincial Park. The Ahousaht, Hesquiaht, and Tla-o-qui-aht are three of the Nuu-chah-nulth first nations peoples. Nuu-Chah-nulth means “all along the mountains and sea,” and they have looked after this stretch of coast for thousands of years.
With their help and the support of the local First Nations communities, and the federal and provincial governments, Clayoquot Sound was designated the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in January of 2000. Together, we revere this pristine habitat, one of the few places on earth for people to experience the rare, natural surroundings that have sustained the Nuu-chah-nulth people, wildlife and ecosystems for a millennium.
