Step into a world few will ever see.

Our Story

Long ago, beneath the ancient mountain Chiitape (Catface Mountain), Hyupinulth, ancestor of Tyee Ḥaw̓iiḥ Ḿukʷina, gathered warriors from Waʔuus (Cypre River), a thriving village that once housed hundreds of families, and led a chant that would shape the future of the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ hawiih (Chiefs). Today, from this sacred hahoulthee (territory), the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) continue their stewardship of the land, guided by renewal, responsibility and a vision for a thriving future.

The Journey

It begins with the crossing. From Tofino, a boat carries you across open water to Quait Bay, where our floating retreat rests suspended at the edge of the continent. The shoreline shifts. The forest deepens. The pace of the world falls away.

The Lodge

At the end of the crossing, a floating retreat tucked into a secluded cove, with private rooms on the water and cabins in the rainforest. You are welcomed at the House of Huupukwanum – ḥuupukʷanum maḥtii (Treasures of the Chiefs) longhouse, the cultural heart of Wahous Wilderness Lodge, where traditions are respectfully shared, not as performance, but as living culture.

Step Inside

Tide-to-Table

Every meal at Kleetsu – ƛiicuu maḥtii (feasting house) restaurant is a story about our land and ocean. Tide-to-table, shaped by season and shore, our menus reflect the surrounding wilderness and the hands that have shaped this place for generations. The first ingredient is always the territory itself.

Experiences

Adventure unfolds in every direction. A kayak along routes travelled for generations by our ancestors. A forest trail beneath cedars that have stood for centuries. Higher ground is earned step by step. The land moves at its own speed, and you move with it. Whether guided by the knowledge of the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) hawiih (Chiefs) or finding your own pace, each route is a way deeper into this hahoulthee (territory).

Set Your Pace

Wellness

A quieter path runs through Oo-chims – ʔuusmč maḥtii (cleansing house) Spa. Healing here follows four paths drawn from the land and its creatures, bear, whale, eagle and wolf, each a different way home to yourself. A cedar hot tub overlooking the bay. The warmth of the sauna. The hush of a treatment room. Time to rest, release, return.
