Wahous Wilderness Lodge

Wildlife and Wilderness Adventures in BC

Authentic. Welcoming.

Rooted in ʕaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) hahoulthee (territory), Wahous Wilderness Lodge offers more than escape. It’s an invitation to enter a living land guided by stewardship, responsibility and renewal.

Indigenous-owned and operated, our floating retreat rests within the cared-for wilderness of our people, where the Pacific Ocean, old-growth forests and an ancestral lineage exist in deliberate relationship. Here, hospitality is an extension of stewardship and tradition.

Sixteen private guest rooms — each featuring your own waterfront deck space overlooking Quait Bay and the surrounding rainforest — and four secluded cabins provide comfort without compromising integrity. A cedar longhouse and shoreline spa invite moments of reflection, cultural connection and restoration. Dining is tide-to-table, shaped by season and sea. Trails, lakes and rainforest are not amenities, but pathways into place.

This is not a retreat removed from the world. It is a sanctuary shaped by it.

Step off the grid. Walk gently. Be received.

CULTURE

Your time at Wahous Wilderness Lodge is truly an immersive experience in the heart of ʕaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) hahoulthee (territory). Here, the natural world and the rich culture of the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) hawiih (Chiefs) are intertwined, offering a rare opportunity to connect with both the land and its people.

Each stay is framed, at its beginning and its end, by the House of Huupukwanum – ḥuupukʷanum maḥtii (Treasures of the Chiefs) longhouse. Your arrival is marked by a welcoming ceremony introducing the culture and living traditions of this hahoulthee (territory). The stay concludes with a klup-chus – tapčas (salmon barbecue) ceremonial dinner, a gathering that marks not just a farewell, but a meaningful moment of cultural connection.

At Wahous Wilderness Lodge, we welcome you into a living culture, one that honours the natural world, embraces the teachings of our ancestors and respectfully envisions the future for generations to come.

ACCOMMODATION

Two immersive options are available within our lodge.

House of Kwa-kwithl – ḳʷakʷaƛ maḥtii (House of Sea Otters), the floating lodge, features 16 private guest rooms across four categories. Each stateroom and corner room offers large windows, a private deck overlooking Quait Bay and the temperate rainforest and the particular quiet that comes from being suspended over still water.

Set a short walk from the Lodge, four private cabins offer a more secluded forest stay. Each cabin is named for the creatures of this territory: qʷayaciik maḥtii (House of Wolf), čiims maḥtii (House of Bear), cixʷatin maḥtii (House of Eagle) and qu˔išin maḥtii (House of Raven). Open-plan and unhurried, each includes a full kitchen and expansive views of the surrounding forest and water.

Throughout the lodge, you’ll find hidden pockets of serenity in our common areas. Curl up by the fire with a glass of locally produced wine, share stories with us in our longhouse or pause at any window to simply take in the natural beauty of our surroundings.

Time with us is time spent recalibrating and resetting. This is a kind of abundance that comes from relationship, not transaction.

Dining

Tide-to-Table

At Wahous Wilderness Lodge, every meal is a story about our land and ocean. Our culinary team works with local farmers, sustainable fisheries and shellfish harvesters, ensuring each fresh ingredient is sourced with integrity, and each dish prepared with care and respect for its origins.

Served in our floating restaurant, menu offerings pair as beautifully with locally produced wines and spirits as they do with the stunning views of Quait Bay. The taste of ʕaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) hahoulthee (territory) begins in the surrounding wilderness, connecting place and people in a way that makes this experience truly special.

Sustainability

Honouring the Land, Protecting the Future

At Wahous Wilderness Lodge, caring for the land is woven into daily life. Guided by the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) worldview and Seven Generation Thinking, we look beyond the present moment, making choices that honour those who came before us and protect this wilderness for those who will follow.

We uphold the highest standards of respect for the forests, waters and wildlife that make Clayoquot Sound extraordinary. Surrounded by protected parks and ecological reserves, this region plays a vital role in preserving biodiversity. Nature is our greatest teacher, and we honour that role by listening, learning and giving back through sustainable practices that tread lightly on the land.

Every guest becomes part of this shared responsibility. By choosing to visit Wahous Wilderness Lodge, you contribute to a vision of conservation, cultural renewal and a sustainable future.
