If your questions aren’t answered here, please reach out to bookings@wahouswildernesslodge.com. We are happy to help.
Getting to Tofino
Tofino is on the west coast of Vancouver Island, roughly a three-hour drive from Nanaimo or four and a half hours from Victoria. The journey is part of the experience; the highway winds through Pacific Rim National Park and along stretches of old-growth forest before reaching the coast.
By car
From Victoria, take Highway 1 north to Nanaimo, then Highway 4 west to Tofino. Allow approximately four and a half hours, with stops along the way at Cathedral Grove or Coombs.
From Nanaimo, take Highway 4 west to Tofino. The drive takes approximately three hours.
Highway 4 includes mountain passes and winding sections. Plan for variable weather and check conditions before you travel.
By air
Tofino-Long Beach Airport (YAZ) is served by Pacific Coastal Airlines from Vancouver, as well as scheduled flights through Harbour Air from either the Vancouver (YVR) Airport south terminal or Canada Place harbour in downtown Vancouver. Flights are short and offer stunning views of the coast. From the airport, Tofino is a 20-minute drive.
By ferry
From the mainland, BC Ferries connects Horseshoe Bay or Tsawwassen to Nanaimo. From Nanaimo, follow the driving directions above.
Weather
The coast keeps its own weather. Rain and wind are part of life here year-round, and ocean exposure can make even summer days feel cool. Layers serve you well. A laundry service is available throughout your stay, so anything that gets wet or muddy on the trail can come back ready to wear.
There is no dress code at Kleetsu, ƛiicuu maḥtii (feast house). Dine in whatever feels right, casual, polished or somewhere in between.
For a full list of what to bring and what we provide, see What to Pack.
Checking in
Boat transfers depart from Ahous Adventures, located at 368 Main Street, Unit 313, Tofino, BC. Check-in is open between 10 AM and 2:30 PM on the day of arrival, with transfers leaving as early as 3 PM. The crossing takes about 20 minutes.
We strongly recommend spending at least one night in Tofino or elsewhere on Vancouver Island the night before. Travel days have a way of shifting, and giving yourself a buffer means you arrive at the dock unhurried.
If your arrival doesn’t align with our scheduled transfer times, private charters can be arranged at an additional cost. For guests travelling from Vancouver, seaplane transfers directly to Quait Bay are also available on request, subject to availability. Please reach out and we’ll help coordinate the right option for you.

Dietary requirements
Please share any dietary requirements at the time of booking, or in advance of your arrival, by contacting bookings@wahouswildernesslodge.com. We do our best to accommodate using available regional produce. Because of our remote location, strict religious or preferred meal observances cannot always be guaranteed.
Accessibility
A high level of mobility is essential to access Wahous Wilderness Lodge and its facilities. Reaching the property requires embarking and disembarking our vessel onto floating docks, and pathways between lodge amenities include steep ramps and flights of stairs.
Wahous Wilderness Lodge is not wheelchair accessible. If you have mobility considerations, please contact us directly so we can discuss what is possible.
Connectivity
Cellular service is not available at Wahous Wilderness Lodge. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided in all rooms, though connections may be slower than you are accustomed to given our remote location.
Pet policy
Wahous Wilderness Lodge is not a pet-friendly property. Domesticated animals are a wildlife attractant and can disturb the natural rhythms of the land we steward.
For pet-sitting options in Tofino, or to discuss bringing a service animal (B.C. documentation will be required), please reach out to our team at bookings@wahouswildernesslodge.com.
Travel insurance
We strongly recommend third-party travel insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances. Given our remote location, coverage should include trip cancellation, medical care and emergency evacuation.
Please note that funds lost due to no-shows, last-minute cancellations, late arrivals or early departures are non-refundable.
Booking, cancellation and changes
A deposit equal to 50% of the total package cost is required at the time of booking. The remaining balance is processed 45 days before arrival and becomes non-refundable upon cancellation or no-show.
Cancellations made 45 days or more before arrival are subject to a $150 fee per person, with the balance refunded. Cancellations within 45 days of arrival forfeit the full cost of the stay.
Changes to a confirmed booking are accommodated 45 days or more before arrival and carry a $50 administrative fee per adjustment. Modifications requested within 45 days of arrival cannot be accommodated.
Due to our limited season and remote setting, we are unable to offer flexibility beyond these policies.
